Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Introductory Walk and Night Exploration
Upon arrival at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal, our team will welcome you and take you to our office to organize your luggage. From there, we'll begin a land journey, leaving the city behind and entering the lush Amazon rainforest. At the port, we'll board a motorized boat to navigate the Tambopata and Malinowski Rivers until we reach our eco-lodge, where you’ll be welcomed with a tropical fruit drink and a delicious lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll take an introductory walk along nearby trails with a naturalist guide. You'll have the chance to spot howler monkeys, toucans, frogs, butterflies, and giant trees.
When night falls, we'll head out again with flashlights for a night walk, perfect for discovering the jungle’s more mysterious side: glass frogs, camouflaged insects, tarantulas, and, if we’re lucky, night monkeys or snakes. A unique experience accompanied by the natural symphony of the forest., Day 2: Chuncho Clay Lick – Lake Sandoval and Caiman Search
Early in the morning, we'll head to the Chuncho Clay Lick, a clay wall visited by hundreds of macaws, parrots, and parakeets from across the jungle to feed on its mineral-rich surface.
From a safe observation area, we'll enjoy breakfast while watching this spectacular display of color and sound.
Along the way there and back, keep an eye out for capybaras and caimans.
After lunch, we'll return to the city and head to the Tambopata National Reserve to begin our excursion to Lake Sandoval.
We’ll hike about 3 km through the forest, a route filled with tropical birds, monkeys, giant trees, and medicinal plants.
Once at the lake, we'll board a paddle canoe to explore its calm waters. In this tranquil setting, we may spot giant otters, caimans, taricaya turtles, and numerous birds such as kingfishers, herons, and hoatzins.
At dusk, the sky turns warm shades reflected on the water. Then, in complete silence, we'll begin our night search for caimans, using flashlights to spot the glowing eyes of these magnificent reptiles—ending the day with a magical experience., Day 3: Sunrise on the Lake – Botanical Walk – Return to Puerto Maldonado
We’ll start the day with a gentle paddle across the lake to watch the sunrise over Sandoval—one of the most peaceful and beautiful moments of the trip. At this hour, giant otters are often active, and it’s common to see birds flying low over the water or fishing at the surface.
After breakfast, we'll take a botanical walk along the reserve's trails to learn about iconic trees such as shihuahuaco and Brazil nut, as well as medicinal plants used by local Amazonian communities. This final walk wraps up our expedition with new knowledge and a deeper appreciation for this unique ecosystem.
Around midday, we'll return to Puerto Maldonado to conclude our adventure. We say goodbye with gratitude, hearts full of memories, and a profound connection to the jungle.
